Sonnanstine Gets Back on Track

In his first 5 starts, Andy Sonnanstine struggled with his control, allowing 12 walks in only 25.1 innings pitched. Consequently he was 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA. Against the Yankees tonight though, Sonnanstine was spectacular, giving up only 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched. The most important statistic? No walks allowed and 68 of 99 pitches thrown for strikes. Unfortunately, Andy didn't get the win as Mark Texeira hit a bases-clearing 3-run double to tie the game at 3 off of J.P. Howell. Luckily, Carlos Pena bailed the Rays out in the 10th inning with a game winning homer to right field.

Hopefully this is a sign that Sonnanstine has regained his control. With Scott Kazmir struggling, the Rays need all they can get out of their other starters.
